I have often been often asked as a makeup artist, what are the most important habits for really healthy, beautiful skin. So I sat down and decided I wanted to share some of my tips and what really works for me.
1. Never, I mean NEVER touch your face without thoroughly washing your hands.
For the last 18 months, with COVID19 looming around. I hope you all have managed to follow this one very simple rule, now more than ever! But yes ladies, really the only two times a day I actually touch my face, are in the morning and the evening, when cleansing and moisturizing.
2. ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS wear a sunscreen.
Yes ladies, even during winter months, I use a natural sunscreen from "Hey Gorgeous" - which I absolutely LOVE. It is all natural, without any nasties and retails at R 250 a tub. They have two variants available. Follow the link below to purchase your own.
I love layering this product on top of all my other serums and moisturiser, it is lightweight and non-sticky. Containing Zinc Oxide 23% as it's main ingredient, you know it will block out harmful UV rays. The other yummy ingredients contain; Organic Grapeseed Oil, Organic Green Tea, Organic Black Tea, Organic Hemp Seed Oil, Organic Cocoa Butter, All Natural Mango Butter, All Natural Rosemary Oil Extract, All Natural Vitamin E. Making it a wonderful product to add to your skin routine.
3. Hyaluronic Acid
Well known to help alleviate dry skin as well as speeds up the healing process of broken skin/ wounds.
It was about a week into using this serum, (which I might add is absorbed more easily into the skin, when the skin is slightly damp), I noticed a red spot on my skin very quickly disappear. Being in my mid- thirties, skin does not recover as quickly as it did in my 20's. The one I chose to use is from the Inkey List (an imported product made in Canada) and can be found on Takealot, link below. It is little pricey, but I think it is totally worth it as you use so little at a time and the results are pretty instant.
4. HYDRATE
I am sure this is something you have heard all your life, but seriously, it works. There is no cheaper way to a beautiful looking skin than hydrating from within. Here is a way to calculate exactly how much water you need daily to stay well hydrated and healthy. Your weight: The first step to knowing how much water to drink every day is to know your weight.
Multiply by 2/3: Next you want to multiply your weight by 2/3 (or 67%) to determine how much water to drink daily.

5. Overnight oil
Invest in a good overnight oil. I love to combine mine with my moisturizer at night time, to give a lovely healthy glow and have been doing so for many years. Oils are wonderful for our skin, as they don't only create a glow, but they help lock in moisture and protect the skin from the external elements.
My choice of evening oil, is Revitalising Flower Therapy facial serum from The Victorian Garden. It is reasonably priced and last for a good three months. Packed with natural antioxidants and smells like flower heaven.
